Side effects of this treatment are rare. Most people find that the injection causes only mild discomfort. Immediately after the injection, there may be mild swelling, which usually subsides in 48 hours.
Occasionally a temporary drooping of the eyelid can occur. This may last a few weeks, but Special eye drops can be prescribed during this time to help lift the lid back into the extremely rare cases patients have developed an allergy to the treatment, while others have shown resistance, i.e. it causes little or no effect on the treated muscles.
If you are pregnant or a nursing mother, treatment is not recommended.
Dermal fillers before and after advice from Skinscape Blackheath:
Filler is a sterile gel consisting of non-animal, stabilised hyaluronic acid and a local anaesthetic called lidocaine. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar chain molecule, naturally occurring in the skin and throughout the body. The sterile gel is injected into the skin to correct facial lines, wrinkles and folds, for lip enhancement, for shaping facial contours including chin, cheeks, jawline and the nose and for skin rejuvenation.
Common Side Effects Associated with the Injection
• Pain or stinging sensation when the injection is performed.
• Localized swelling, redness and or tenderness
• Bleeding at the sites of injection

Whilst not expected, it is possible that reactions described may persist for longer than expected and may inhibit your confidence to attend work or social events. You are advised to schedule treatment with this in mind, allowing time for common reactions such as bruising and swelling, to settle.

What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable products either synthetic or natural which are used to help restore volume or fill in various lines around the face. They are injected under the skin to give a more youthful or enhanced look.
How are they applied?
Dermal fillers are administered by a trained medical practitioner and are injected around the face using various techniques.
What happens during the treatment?
Dermal fillers generally take around 30 45 minutes to administer. Your medical practitioner will discuss your thoughts and assess your face to decide on the best treatment plan for you. They will then determine the injection site to achieve the best results for you. Your practitioner will then administer the dermal fillers through several injections. You can usually feel the initial injection but the procedure shouldn't be painful as all dermal fillers contain lidocaine products. You can return to work or day to day activities immediately.
Are there any side effects?
If they do occur, they are:
• Temporary/ Mild to moderate
• Most common are slight bruising and swelling from the injection sites
• A detailed list of side effects can be obtained from the practitioner at your consultation.
When can you see results?
Dermal fillers work instantly. Following treatment the area should be left alone to settle.
How long does it last?
Dermal fillers on average last around 6-12 months but this can differ for each individual.
How much does it cost?
Dermal fillers are generally charged per syringe or sometimes by treatment area and vary depending on the strength and longevity of the filler.I understand that though complications are uncommon, they do sometimes occur. It is possible that side effects not described may occur and indeed that a complication not previously reported may occur for the first time.
I understand if I suffer any adverse reactions that are not expected, or concern me, I must contact the clinic. An appointment will be made for me to be seen. The clinic cannot take responsibility for complications or results that have not been reported, assessed, documented and managed in a timely fashion.
I understand that whilst results desired and expected have been discussed, outcomes vary between individuals and cannot be guaranteed.
